Raval

A principios del año 2003 comencé un trabajo de documentación en el barrio del Raval. Una zona antigua y degradada de la ciudad, que está siendo restaurada. Una zona en la que conviven inmigrantes de diferentes procedencias, estudiantes de todo el mundo, y los habitantes ‘tradicionales’ del barrio: catalanes que se han criado allí, parientes de éstos que han venido de otras provincias, y gente que por diversas causas no tiene casa y habita de hecho espacios abandonados. Una zona donde día tras día desaparecen del paisaje ‘familiar’ edificios que formaron parte de nuestra identidad, de la propia manera de estructurar el espacio, para ser reemplazados por estructuras nuevas. Una zona donde los grafittis y las pegatinas aparecen y desaparecen en cuestión de horas.

Con éste material, monté esta serie. El proyecto es bucear en el entorno cotidiano, hacia el rescate de la memoria constitutiva de una identidad. Rescate de la memoria de una zona ‘en extinción’ en la que se superponen las intervenciones municipales y las ciudadanas. Entendiendo el barrio como un universo compuesto de partes interrelacionadas y no como un plano previamente trazado y subdividido.

At the beginning of the year 2003 I began a photographic work in the raval of Barcelona, from which, I mounted this series. The project is to dive in the daily environment, towards the rescue of a constitutive memory of the identity. Rescue of the memory of a zone ' in extinction ' understanding the quarter as a universe consisted of independent parts and not as an abstract drawing planned in a plane and subdivided in parts.

I consider important to reflect before a reality of ' zapping architectural ' where day by day they eliminate of the 'familiar' scenery buildings that were a part of our identity, of the proper way of structuring the space, to be replaced by new structures. Quite to such a vertiginous rhythm, that he seems logical to feel at least, 'dislocated'.

This project investigates the relation of the subject with the environment, the different aspects of the identity in interrelation with the context. Of like the people and the environment are interrelated. The one who belongs to whom. The one who constructs whom. The people create and adapt the places where it lives, but this process simultaneously transforms his life.
